Any tips for writing a sad poem based on the book Ender's Game?

I have to write a poem on the book Ender's Game (doesn't have to rhyme). It has to to be sad/ominous (about death mostly). Though, every time I go to begin writing, I can't think of anything. Does anyone have any tips on how to start a poem like that?
